Have you ever heard about John Flourney? He attempted to establish a Deaf state, but it was fruitless because approximately 90 to 95% Deaf parents have hearing children.
I thought it would be wonderful for me to live in a Deaf state, country, or world, but there is a problem. I have two hearing children and I couldn't leave my children. You need to think carefully about this. God loves everyone and expects Deaf people as well as Hearing people to accept their children regardless of their hearing status. Would you desert your children if they are hearing? I don't think that is not part of God's plan. Thank you.

There would be no books (by hearing authors) allowed in the deaf land's libraries???
No internet communication between both worlds?
But mates would be easier to find. ;)
How many would be in this deaf land?
Let us say 1 percent of the world's population (6.5 Bil) is in this deaf land. That would be would be 65 million.

The proposal seems to be radical. You said, hearing people are suffering with their life of way beacause of deaf people. What about those other disbalites that cause difficulties for hearing people?
Regarding to your comments about babies, hearing or deaf should be placed in a proper atmosphere for either hearing abilities. I disagree with that, hearing baby can learn signing language before vocal. Therefore, we should offer hearing family some kind of incentives to move to Deaf "land" to allow this deaf child to be exposed to his/her true culture. As for Deaf family with hearing child, there will be no problem, because of many coda have a successful life.
Bilingual and Bicultural works well. We need to tell hearing community to adopt BI-BI approach in educational setting that includes hearing and deaf kids in same school settings.

there is nothing to do with deaf people making noise in hearing communtiy, look at hearing family have kids who are wild and running around in the house to make noise and make loud music etc. deaf people collect ssi and ssdi and rob hearing taxpayers look at mothers collect welfare who rob taxpayers, they can work and send kids to daycare,I work at store and hearing people love me there and I was watching them what they should do with things in the store without communtion so I figure what I should do that jobs and I did right things so no problem with hearing people. I amnot taking side of them.

Hi Noah,
How about eating babies? I recalled Jonathan Swift mentioned about encouraging Irish parents to eat their own children (part of his comments against English oppressive policies.)

I don't understand - Jonathan Swift promotes cannibalism (from the link you provided).
Good point about Deaf giving Hearing a hard time, but don't forget our Creator made deaf and hearing both, with blind, etc. He put them both in the world together. Why? to develop patience, kindness, love, probably? :)

Noah,
I do not mean to burst your bubble
because there were intellectuals who also fantasised as you do. Take Plato. He fantasised about the elites in his Republic. More's Utopia, Bacon's The New Atlantis, Hesse's The Glass Bead Game, Voltaire's El Dorado, Swift's Elysium Field. Can we do it in Indiana? What about crab netters commonly seen amongst deaf people. I do not mean to crash your dream, but c'est impossible. Look at the kibbutz Jews built as a utopia years ago. Successful utopia in Israel? Alas, not.
Once again, I am sorry, but I do not mean to sound too pessimistic; I am merely being realistic.

Noah, I am a Deaf mother of two hearing children, I would be absolutely pained if I was forced to give up my two children. It is like running a Nazi state.
I understand where you are coming from but I didn't like the part when you said that hearing parents have to give up their deaf babies and vice versa.
I know you want us to force us into thinking box and see what it would be like if we could establish a deaf state but there are a lot of flaws I could see happening.
Anyway thanks for sharing your story, some of it was funny although! Do you have children of your own? If not, then wait until you have a baby and then you may change your mind! :-)

"A Modest Proposal" is a satire. This post is also a satire. He is not actually suggesting that a seperate Deaf world be set up. Jonathan Swift wrote "A Modest Proposal" to shock people into paying attention to the poor political situation of the oppressed in Ireland at the time. I'm thinking the same logic applies here.

There are deaf men married or dating hearing women, and deaf women dating or marrying hearing men.. You want these deaf women to be forced to marry deaf men? I'm sorry, No way. Just because two people share the same deafness, does not mean it will be successful.
I'm a deaf woman who was married to a deaf man, and that did not work out for a mutilude of reasons. I'm currently dating a hearing man and I love being with him. So that part of your proposal I strongly disagree with.. And how are deaf people supposed to educate the rest of the world if we're isolated from them?
And taking children from their mothers when they were JUST born? That's wrong, unethical, and crazy. Mothers would go through a severe depression from losing their children. Your whole plan is flawed, illogical, and frankly, cruel.

I don't think Jesus agree with your idea. If you are really born-again christian, you would accept live share with hearing people.

The couples in that land would want to have babies that the "law" will not snatch away. Couples in the deaf land will try for deaf babies while couples in hearing land will try for hearing babies. For sure, leading to abortions/prenatal screening or genetic engineering??!

Also it occured to me that the world deaf don't share the same sign language soooo there will be still divisions in the deaf land. If we did have one S.L., would we attempt to create a "tower" of self-pride? (the Babel story)
Why do a lot of deaf insist that they are not disabled? What is wrong with being disabled? My grandparents said all people are disabled and have disabilities (sinners, etc). I don't think they said to me "God made you as you are"....if one did then he would be denying sin. ??

Hi Noah. sound very interested thought about setup an utopia for the deaf world only. I know this is not going to work that way....because of what God created us of who we are and accept the blue print plan that God already have for us indidivually from the beggining to now unless.....:) KH
