Why there are three different departments? (evangelism, bible translation, and building bridges)

In reality, there are four departments. Deaf International consists of an exclusive governance system where there are three different departments with their own departmental bylaws, directors, committees, board members and programs. Each department has a specific mission statement derived from the mission statement of Deaf International as a whole. There is also an executive department that overlooks all three departments and consists of its own organizational bylaws, board members, committees, and is the home of the executive director of the organization. Currently our organization consists only of the executive directors, executive committees, and executive board members in charge of all four departments, (executive, evangelism, Bible translation, and building bridges), until there is enough money and people.

What Evangelism Department Do?

One of the four departments of Deaf International is the Department of Evangelism. Since 99% of the 364 million deaf people worldwide are unreached, The Department of Evangelism seeks to reach them with the Word of God. This department is dedicated to substantially increasing opportunities for deaf people worldwide to have access to matters of religion. The department has reached deaf people in the United States, Trinidad, Romania, Moldova, the Philippines, and the Bahamas. The department achieves its goal through preaching, teaching, conducting camps, workshops, revivals, and conventions, and providing a wide variety of assistance.

GOALS:

  • Reach one of the largest unreached people groups in the world.

  • Bring the hope, grace, love, passion, and joy of Jesus Christ to deaf people internationally and nationally.

  • Provide deaf people with as much access to the Word of God as is enjoyed by hearing people.

  What Bible Translation Department Do?

The Bible is recognized as the top all-time bestseller in the entire world. Unfortunately, none of the Bibles being sold are translated into any sign language. Millions of deaf people dream of having a Bible in their very own language, and the Department of Bible Translation is dedicated to fulfilling that dream. The department seeks to set-up, develop, train, and accommodate Bible translation teams of various sign languages all around the world. Deaf International is currently working with three sign language Bible translation teams: American Sign Language, Romanian Sign Language, and Russian Sign Language. The department is in the process of reaching more countries in order to set up more sign language Bible translation teams.

GOALS:

  • Develop, set-up, train, and accommodate Bible translation teams of various sign languages.
  • Provide deaf people with the Bible in their own language.
  • Promote deaf communities by having the Bible translated into their own language.

  What Building Bridges Department Do?

Unfortunately, most hearing people around the world do not recognize the potential that deaf people have, let alone recognize the deaf as a cultural group. Inspired by the fact that other countries prohibit deaf people from working, going to school, driving, and raising children, the Department of Building Bridges is dedicated to building bridges in order to connect two worlds, those of the Deaf and Hearing. The department aims to keep these bridges as a strong foundation by being deaf advisors internationally and nationally.

GOALS:

  • Build bridges in order to connect two worlds, those of the Deaf and Hearing, internationally and nationally.
  • Keep these bridges as a strong foundation.
  • Bring hope and joy to deaf people internationally and nationally by promoting human rights.
