“..and
repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all
nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” Luke 24:47
Deaf International, a non-profit
organization, was founded in January 2005 by Reverend Debbie Buchholz and
her Deaf son, Noah Buchholz. In reality, this organization was founded long
before 2005 at times when the call of God was answered by Noah and Debbie.
This organization was founded when Rev. Buchholz adopted four deaf children
from different countries. She then became a pastor for a deaf church in
Council Bluffs, Iowa for six years, and then moved to Olathe, Kansas where
she received a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. After
completing her schooling, Debbie became a pastor of a deaf church in Olathe
where Noah also preach and teach.
At the age of eleven, Noah Buchholz began to follow in
his mother’s footsteps and traveled to different locations within the United
States as a preacher. The next year, God called him to go on a mission trip
to Trinidad with four other team members. After that trip, Noah decided not
to purse a career in evangelism but purse the goal of becoming a pastor like
his mother was. However, that was his plan, not God’s. One year after his
trip to Trinidad, God placed Noah in the country of Romania as the leading
pastor of a Romanian deaf Christian camp and as the leader of a family
conference for deaf Christians. During that mission trip, Noah and his group
were wandering along a familiar mountain often trekked by a member of the
group. While on top of the mountain, Noah could feel that the amazing grace
of God would soon come before him. Sure enough, the amazing grace of God
came down before him just a few minutes after he had had that thought. What
happened was that Noah and his group had become lost and was forced to
journey through an unfamiliar village. While walking through that village,
Noah happened to meet two deaf girls. He invited them to come to the camp he
was hosting. The two girls came and accepted Jesus into their hearts on the
final day of the camp. Through this situation, God told Noah that even
though 99% of the 364 million deaf people worldwide are unreached (which is
truly a lot), God will help him to reach those people. After that trip, Noah
realized that it is his calling to travel around the world and preach.
That was when they suddenly founded
an organization that would bring God to deaf people around the world. They
not only established within the organization a department dedicated to
evangelism, but a department of translation, and a department of building
bridges, because they believed that God wanted the entire world to know that
all deaf citizens were indeed His children, and that God wished for them to
have access equal to that enjoyed by the hearing.
He said to them, “Go into all the world
and preach the good news to all creation”
Mark 16:15
