Video Dictionary of Romanian Signs: A Coalition Program
Aim: A project to document the regional sign language
vocabulary of Deaf Romanians in order to contribute to
the establishment of a standardized sign language system
for Deaf Romanians, interpreters and translators for the
Deaf, and those in the Romanian Deaf Community.
Methods to be used:
A committee comprised of several teams of two representatives each from
every region of Romania where the sign language vocabulary is unique to that
particular zone (to be determined by a general committee of Deaf Romanians)
will compile a vocabulary of their own regional signs from a prepared list
of words and phrases. These signs will be videotaped in a television studio
and edited into a video (DVD) dictionary of signs. Each region’s signing
representative will be a native signer (one whose first language is Romanian
sign language) which is deaf. The other representative on the committee
will serve as a consultant, prompter and proofer (checking for accuracy and
performance) for the person signing on the video. Both team representatives
should have a thorough knowledge of the signs used in their own particular
zone of Romania.
Proposed dates for
making the video recording: Monday, October 30 – Friday, November 3, 2006
Location: Alfa-Omega
Television Studios in Timisoara, Romania
